Gibson, Irene

MPhil Candidate for International Relations, Department of Politics and International Relations


Irene Gibson is a MPhil Candidate for International Relations at the University of Oxford. She specializes in refugee movements, and is currently writing her thesis on Syrian refugee integration in the EU. Previously, Gibson has worked at the American University of Kuwait in Salmiya, Kuwait, Yarmouk University in Irbid, Jordan, and for the Iraqi American Reconciliation Project in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She has spoken at international conferences on refugees in Jordan and the United States. Gibson also founded the student organization Macalester Helping Open Peaceful Exchange, which promotes post-conflict dialogue around the world, and the Arabic Board, an initiative to expand the Arabic program at Macalester College. Gibson holds a BA in International Studies, Political Science, and Arabic from Macalester College.
