Tartir, Alaa

Post-doctoral Researcher, Center on Conflict, Development, and Peacebuilding

Alaa Tartir, a PhD candidate and researcher in International Development Studies and Political Economy at the Department of International Development, at the London School of Economics and Political Science, LSE. He is researching security and economy governance, state-building and development, and political economy of aid dependency in Occupied Palestine particularly, but also in conflict-affected contexts more broadly. Alaa is also the Program Director of Al-Shabaka: The Palestinian Policy Network working with dedicated policy advisors to strategize for Palestine and influence the policy making arenas. Alaa is a research fellow at The Palestine Economic Policy Research Institute (MAS); The Palestinian American Research Center; and Bisan Center for Research and Development. He provides consultancies for other local and international organizations. Alaa received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Management studies from Birzeit University, and has a postgraduate MSc. degree in International Development-Development Finance from IDPM, University of Manchester, U.K. He graduated with distinction in all his degrees. Alaa has published extensively over the last few years and has written various publications including research papers, policy briefs, book chapter, books, books reviews, conference papers and media articles. His work was featured in academic journals and local and international media outlets. Alaa has participated in many international and local conferences and workshops.
