Session R4921 (Material Politics in the Middle East), 2017
In my comments, I will offer five observations, extrapolated from the case of Mandate Palestine’s electric grid, concerning how a focus on material politics can benefit social theory, particularly as regards the relationship between intention, agency, and structure. The comments will be organized around the concept of “network,” and focus on the multiple feedback loops between temporal and spatial scales, as well as the domains of technology, economics, and politics.
