Basheer, Abdelhadi

Graduate Student, Cultural Studies and Social Thought
Washington State University

My passion has always been teaching, leading and mentoring. I enjoy educating marginalized students, especially English Learners and individuals from underserved communities. I am a first generation college graduate who dared to dream that my life could be different. Having lived in disfranchised, impoverished country for nearly 25 years, and finally had the chance to pursue my graduate education in the United States; I believe that the stars are the limit. Living in Palestine, I had nothing but to dream that I could attend a good university and those economic obstacles will not stop me from achieving my goals. Throughout my educational career, I have always tried to open doors for the next generation of students who could become the professionals Palestine desperately need. My work has always revolved around building bridges through meaningful partnerships that allows all of us to move forward together. Because of my lived experiences, I see all of my work through a social justice framework and it allows me to build rapport and trust with communities. During the past ten years I have worked on projects related to Teaching ESL internationally and in the U.S., and teaching Culturally responsive curriculum, youth leadership and activism, critical pedagogy, media intervention and Islamphopia. I have learned from the very best parents, teachers, mentors how to engage with communities, mobilize and advocate. In sum, I’m a teacher, a leader, a mentor, and a community-based activist. Determination and Passion are the two key qualities that drive me, inform my decisions, and shape my path. I am looking forward to new adventures and eager to connect with you.
