A Short personal biography of Shāyān (Yāshār) Afshār Shayan Afshar has earned his Ph.D. in Near Eastern Studies from the University of California, Berkeley. His dissertation is on the Cultural and Linguistic Transition from Sasanian Persia to Islamic Iran. He has also received his BA in Liberal Arts/Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley and his M.F.A. from the San Francisco Art Institute. He has also returned to painting after over a decade and just last year (2014) had a major solo show at the Seyhoun Art Gallery in LA. As a lecturer, he taught first and second year Persian in the NES department for two years and then, for three years at Santa Monica College. After that, he went to the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and taught the Persian language and classical prose historical and Sufi texts for three years. Returning to his ‘home state’, California, he taught Persian in all proficiency levels and modern Persian fiction literature at Saddleback College for eight years; meanwhile, he has been teaching an intensive summer language course at the Arizona State University since 2007. At the present time, he is teaching the Persian language in the World Language and Literature Department at San Jose State University. Major Work A comprehensive lexicon of Persian-Dari Language Infinitives: categorized and based on infinitival endings and their roots from Old Iranian & Middle Persian languages. (Bilingual) Published fall 2011, Los Angeles, ISBN 978-0-615-54013-9) This work serves as a primary reference, source and research for Persian language students at all proficiency levels as well as Persian language instructors/educators and linguists. A revised version of this book project submitted for publication by Nášr-e Dānéšgāhī, Tehran University.
