Dr. Delaram Farzaneh is the current Scholar in Residence at the Center for Human Rights and Global Justice at the NYU School of Law. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Law in Iran. After coming to the United States, she received her first LL.M. in Comparative Law, and a second LL.M. and an S.J.D. (Doctor of Juridical Science) in International Legal Studies. Her book, Judgeships in Iran: Step Down, You are a Woman - A Legal Analysis of International Human Rights, examines the issue of banning women from judgeships in Iran from the various perspectives of domestic and comparative law, Islamic jurisprudence, international human rights, within the context of historical events. She also has published articles regarding issues surrounding discriminatory practices against women, and the harassment of human rights defenders and criminalization of their activities. Dr. Farzaneh is a researcher of the Middle East North Africa (MENA) region of the UN Working Group on the Issue of Discrimination against Women in Law and in Practice. Her research focuses on the human rights of women, particularly in Muslim-majority nations.
