Dr Johan Franzén is a historian of the modern Middle East. He is the author of Red Star Over Iraq: Iraqi Communism Before Saddam (Columbia University Press), which was short-listed in 2012 for the prestigious book prize awarded by the British Society for Middle Eastern Studies.
