Session C4965 (Middle East Feminist and Queer Studies: State of the Field), 2017
As editor for the reviews section, my contribution will include a brief survey of trends in book publishing over the past five years, and the thematic continuities therein. Alongside a consistent focus on women, to what extent do these works engage with sexuality, masculinity, gender, queer theory, or propose new insights about feminist theory? Which titles are read beyond the classroom? In addition, I will suggest how insights from conversations raised at conferences, in art exhibits, and film festivals that hint at intriguing prospects in the study of feminism and sexuality in the Middle East.
