Instructional Position to Teach Persian Language and Literature

The Department of Middle Eastern and South Asian Languages and Cultures (MESALC) at the University of Virginia invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track instructional position to teach Persian language and literature. This is a one-year only appointment. The appointment begins with the fall term 2018 with an anticipated start date of August 25, 2018. Field of specialization is open, but may include Persian literature, comparative literature, Iranian culture, Sufism, or cinema. Evidence of excellent teaching and commitment to interdisciplinary work is required.

The successful applicant will have native or near-native fluency in Persian and English. The ability to teach introductory and specialized Persian courses both in Persian and in English is a requirement.

Candidates who hold a Ph.D. in Persian Literature or a related field, by the time of appointment, will be considered for the rank of Assistant Professor, General Faculty, with a teaching load of two courses per semester.

Candidates who have completed all requirements for the Ph.D. except the dissertation (ABD) will be considered for the rank of lecturer, with a teaching load of three courses per semester.
