The Department of Classical, Middle Eastern and Asian Languages and Cultures at Queens College, the City University of New York, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track appointment in Hebrew at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin in the fall semester of 2019.
Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate Hebrew language and literature courses at all levels, in Hebrew as well as in English translation, performing administrative duties for our Hebrew program, and contributing to the Middle Eastern Studies major and the liberal arts curriculum at Queens College. The successful candidate will also be expected to provide evidence of an active research program.
Our department offers a wide variety of courses. In addition to language courses in ancient Greek, Latin, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic and Hebrew, we offer courses on both ancient Western and non-Western classics and on modern Asian and Middle Eastern cultures, taught in English and in one of the foreign languages we cover. By providing linguistic and cultural knowledge we help our students gain a solid foundation for a liberal arts education. We encourage students who have a background in the languages we teach to enhance their proficiency by taking advanced courses. Sequences of our courses may fulfill requirements for majors, minors and interdisciplinary concentrations.
