Chief Advancement Officer

Berkeley, California

Founded in 2009, Zaytuna College is the first accredited Muslim undergraduate college in the United States; its new Master of Arts degree in Islamic Texts (pending WASC approval) will be accepting the first class in Fall 2018 and is intended to provide students a higher-level access to the Islamic tradition. Zaytuna’s founders Shaykh Hamza Yusuf, Imam Zaid Shakir and Dr. Hatem Bazian, along with its extraordinary faculty, are at the heart of making it an institution of academic excellence and spiritual fulfillment.

Zaytuna is thriving and expanding. In 2012 it secured a historic building to serve as its home in the Holy Hill neighborhood of Berkeley. In 2017, the College purchased a nine-acre campus on Grizzly Peak a quick drive up the hill.

Zaytuna aims to educate students to become morally, intellectually, and spiritually accomplished persons who, having been rigorously trained in the Islamic and Western scholarly traditions, are ready to interact with and shape modern society by the light of principles that transcend it, being motivated constantly by the intention of finding the extent of human wisdom.

Zaytuna College also strives to prepare its graduates for lives of service and leadership. Students are challenged to grow in intellectual curiosity and to become caring, responsible human beings committed to the stewardship of creation, especially of the weak and vulnerable. Accordingly, the College emphasizes the universal nature of Islamic values. It is their hope that Muslims of all backgrounds, as well as students and faculty of other faiths and perspectives, will find a welcoming community at the College.

Building Zaytuna’s Development office is the single most important Muslim “project” in the country. Like Notre Dame and Brandeis Universities, Zaytuna aspires to be internationally recognized as best in class in the United States and beyond.

Simply put, colleges don't start from the ground up very often so an opportunity like this is rare. This is an historic time to join Zaytuna. Building on their emerging culture of philanthropy, the new Chief Advancement Officer will make history for the American Muslim community and our country.
