Job Description

The International Comparative Studies (ICS) program at Duke University invites applications for an open-rank Professor of the Practice position that begins August 1, 2019. This is a regular rank renewable faculty position with a four- or five-year term, depending on rank. International Comparative Studies (https://internationalcomparative.duke.edu) is an undergraduate interdisciplinary program that bridges the humanities and social sciences. Students pursue a Global Studies major that focuses on one of seven world regions through language and interdisciplinary courses. The successful candidate will have completed a Ph.D. in the humanities and/or social sciences prior to appointment, be engaged in research and teaching that is interdisciplinary and explores comparative/global topics,and be interested in collaborative teaching and curriculum-building. The selected candidate will also need to demonstrate interest in teaching core ICS courses and will supervise senior theses and contribute appropriate service in the program, including undergraduate advising. The position is open to multiple disciplines and thematics, with a particular interest in the following areas: critical geography and the politics of space; regional and/or global environmental studies; gender, race, sexuality, and disability studies; science, health, and technology. Given the diversity of our students we value candidates with experience teaching and mentoring under-represented students. The position carries a 2/2 teaching load with expectation that three courses per year will be in the ICS core curriculum.
