Synopsis: AIC’s Arabic Language Institute is offering two levels of intensive Arabic this summer at the Introductory and Intermediate levels, both with 140 contact hours which satisfies FLAS funding requirements. Each level covers two semesters or one academic year of university Arabic study equivalent to 8 credits.

Description: Classes for both levels meet 4-5 hours per day, 5 days per week for a total of six weeks comprising 140 contact hours. Classes are planned for the mornings 9am-1:30pm. Some extra-curricular activities are planned, including supplementary sessions devoted to Quranic recitation and calligraphy. Curriculum is built around gaining reading and writing proficiency with a view to acquiring the tools for interacting with Islamic texts. While the communicative aspects of Arabic are not ignored, our teaching focuses on literary Arabic and is not designed to enhance abilities in colloquial Arabic of any particular region. Non-AIC students wishing to take the Intermediate level will be subject to a proficiency test.
