Visiting Assistant Professor in Arabic Language and Literature

The Department of Religion and Classics at University of Rochester invites applications for a full-time appointment as Visiting Assistant Professor in Arabic Language and Literature. This is a two-year position, anticipated to begin in August 2019. The successful candidate will teach upper-level language courses and develop new curricular content in Arabic and English in an area of specialization that engages students with Arabic literature and/or the history, culture and religion of the Arab peoples. The teaching load will consist of four courses per year (2-2 load). The successful candidate will be expected to actively participate in academic and extracurricular activities sponsored by the Department, to play a dynamic role in outreach and cultivate interdisciplinary on-campus partnerships. A Ph.D. in modern Arabic literature or linguistics or a related field, and native or near-native fluency in Modern Standard Arabic and English are required. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level, including upper-division courses in literature and culture, and with demonstrated potential and/or excellence in research and publications in the candidate’s field.
