Arabic language and culture summer program

This seminar offers the opportunity to learn the spoken Arabic language from the beginning, as well as the opportunity to comprehend the unique culture, customs and religions within an academic framework, in the Western Galilee Academic College in northern Israel. The College, which is located in the city of Acre, the center of the Arab population in the Galilee, enables studies in a pleasant and safe environment, as well as learning Arabic from Arabic speakers.

The program is an intensive winter/ summer seminar. Lessons will be taught 5 days a week, 6 hours a day for a period of 3 weeks. 4 days of the program will be held in the campus with frontal lessons and one day will be dedicated for tours in dedicated places around the country. The spoken Arabic language (Palestinian dialect) will be taught by experienced teachers in the English language, in small groups (20 participants). In addition to the language lessons, participants will have the chance to practice by speaking to Arabic students from the College, lectures on topics related to the Middle East and the Palestinians, and also travel to specific locations throughout the country. They will visit Arab villages, meet Arab families, see holy sites such as churches, Mosques and Khalwa (The prayer-houses of the Druze), and experience the cultural life in the Galilee region. These extra curriculum activities serve to promote interaction with Arabic speakers, as well as an understanding of Arab cultural customs and religions
