EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY WITH THE MIDDLE EAST STUDIES PROGRAM (MESP) AND THE ARABIC, PERSIAN, AND TURKISH LANGUAGE INSTITUTE (APTLI) AT UW-MADISON

The Middle East Studies Program and the Arabic, Persian, and Turkish Language Institute at UW-Madison is hiring a full-time coordinator. 

MESP supports and promotes the interdisciplinary study of Middle Eastern and North African languages and cultures by hosting lectures, conferences, film series, and training programs. MESP also partners with local educational and nonprofit institutions to provide accessible programs related to the Middle East and North Africa.

APTLI is an eight-week intensive summer language program offered through the Wisconsin Intensive Summer Language Institutes (WISLI). It is co-hosted by MESP and the Institute for Regional and International Studies (IRIS).

Principal duties:

50%: Coordination of the Middle East Studies Program (MESP)

Coordinate MESPs administration, outreach, and communications under the direction of the MESP Faculty Director. Duties include:

Ensure implementation of MESPs strategic vision, values and goals
Develop and coordinate Middle East programming and community outreach
Provide assistance in grant writing and reporting
Maintain social media accounts and subscriber lists
Update MESP website and UW-Madison events calendar
Coordinate as needed with IRIS Associate Directors and Executive Director
Provide direction to MESP Project Assistants and student hourly workers
Perform a range of related administrative tasks

50%: Coordination of the Arabic, Persian, and Turkish Language Institute (APTLI) 50%

Coordinate all aspects of APTLI under the direction of the APTLI Director and the WISLI Director. Responsibilities include:

Promote the institute to recruit students and instructors
Manage institute communications, including monitoring the APTLI e-mail account and updating the website and social media pages
Coordinate meetings and events for APTLI students and instructors
Gather data, track expenses, manage files, and help to prepare reports
Other administrative tasks as assigned
