Professor (W3) in Iranian Studies

The Department of Foreign Philologies and the Center for Near and Middle Eastern Studies (CNMS) invite applications for a permanent position as Professor (W 3) for Iranian Studies as of April 1st, 2021. The successful candidate is expected to adequately represent the broad range of Iranian Studies on a contemporary and a historical level in both research and teaching at the Department of Foreign Philologies as well as at the Center for Near and Middle Eastern Studies. We expect an emphasis on modern Iran and a research focus in one of the following areas: literature, media, or language; society and history; shia, religious minori-ties, or gender. Experience in the successful acquisition of third-party funds is required.

In addition to a strong research profile in Iranian Studies, the successful applicant will have to teach in the BA programs “Near and Middle Eastern Studies” and “Interdisciplinary Literary and Cultural Studies” (with a focus on Iranian American Studies) and in the MA program “Iranian Studies.” The successful candidate will also be responsible for the organization of Persian language classes and for the supervision of Ph.D. students in the field.
The CNMS has created an interdisciplinary academic working environment and expects the future colleague’s openness for methods and research questions from other fields housed at the CNMS and at the Departments of Economics, the Social Sciences and Philosophy, and Foreign Philologies. We also expect the successful candidate to contribute to the research foci of Philipps-Universität Marburg.
