Assistant Professor of Arabic

The Department of German, Russian, Italian, and Arabic at Hamilton College invites applications for a tenure-track position in Arabic language and cultural studies at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning July 1, 2021. The candidate will be expected to teach Modern Standard Arabic Language courses at all levels. Additionally, the candidate will be expected to offer one or two courses in Arabic literature, history or cultural studies. Applicants should have native, or near-native, fluency in Arabic and preferably have a record of excellence in teaching Arabic language, as well as experience in building a successful language program that engages students creatively both in the classroom as well as with co-curricular activities. Specialization, period, and subfields are open, but we are seeking candidates with interdisciplinary research interests who can also contribute to the College's program in Middle East and Islamic World Studies. The successful candidate will demonstrate their experience in teaching or working with diverse student populations. Ph.D in Arabic Language and Literature, Middle Eastern Studies or a closely related field is required. ABD candidates who can demonstrate that they are close to completing their dissertation may also be considered. The teaching load for this position is four courses in the first year and five courses thereafter.
