Assistant Professor, Pre-1500 Islamicate World

Pre-1500 Islamicate World, Full-Time Tenure-Track. The History Department at Central Washington University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professorship in the history of the Islamicate world prior to 1500 to begin September 2022. Geographic, religious, linguistic, and thematic specializations are open. The successful candidate will teach a 3-2-2 load. In addition to teaching lower-and upper-division classes in History, the successful applicant will teach cross-listed courses in the Africana and Black Studies program, and may have the opportunity to contribute to cross-listed courses in other interdisciplinary areas. Candidates who can teach cross-cultural, or borderlands History classes are particularly welcomed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in History with a specialization in pre-1500 Islamicate world history (ABD candidates must have degree in hand by start date)
  • Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduates in the classroom and/or online.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop effective collaborative relationships and strong commitment to a supportive, collegial work environment.
  • Ability to teach cross-listed courses in Africana and Black Studies.
  • Active and promising research/publication agenda in the history of the Islamicate world prior to 1500
  • Research, teaching, service or other experience that has prepared the candidate to contribute to CWU’s commitment to the engagement and inclusion of culturally diverse students.
