The Department of Middle Eastern and Ancient Mediterranean Studies at Binghamton University (SUNY) invites applications for the position of Lecturer in Arabic. This is a full-time position (three-year contract) with possible renewal, with an August 22, 2022 start date. The teaching load is three courses per semester with the option to teach Arabic literature/culture classes in English online during the winter and summer interterms for additional compensation.
Applicants should hold at least an M.A. or Ph.D. in any Arabic Studies related field including language, linguistics, literature, translation, and foreign language education. We seek candidates who have experience teaching Arabic as a second language at institutions of higher education and who possess native or nearnative competence in Arabic and English. The Lecturer will be responsible for teaching language courses in Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) at all levels using the Al-Kitaab series. Responsibilities may also include teaching an introductory course in an Arabic dialect and serving as the teaching advisor to a potential Fulbright Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA). Candidates who are experienced with technologies in language teaching, online teaching, teaching a diverse student body, and teaching cultural and/or Arabic translation courses are desirable.

- M.A. or Ph.D. in any Arabic Studies related field including language, linguistics, literature, translation, and foreign language education by the start of the appointment.
- Native or near-native competence in Arabic and English.
- At least two years of experience and demonstrated success teaching Arabic as a second language to diverse students at the university level.
