The Department of Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies at New York University invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor (non tenure-track) in Arabic language instruction.  This is a one year teaching position with a course load of 6 courses per year (3 per semester). The appointment will begin on September 2022, pending administrative and budgetary approval. The Department of Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies is an interdisciplinary department offering courses to undergraduate and graduate students, including an array of Arabic, Persian, Turkish, Hindi, and Urdu language courses. We seek a scholar whose teaching and research will strengthen our Arabic language curriculum ranging from elementary to Advanced levels, while also complementing and enhancing the department overall.

Qualifications

Candidates must have native or near-native fluency in Arabic and English and will have a record of excellence in language instruction. They are expected to teach courses at all levels of Modern Standard Arabic ( MSA ). The successful candidate will also demonstrate a willingness to participate actively in the life of the department and to contribute to extracurricular activities. Candidates must have a PhD  or Master’s degree in an appropriate field for Arabic language and literature, translation, media studies, applied linguistics, second language acquisition, or a related field.  Candidates should have experience teaching Modern Standard Arabic at the college level.
