General Call for Papers
The Journal of Gulf Studies promotes interdisciplinarity within the context of area studies. This journal welcomes contributions in the forms of academic papers, book reviews and conference and symposium papers and reports. This journal will be accepting contributions that fall under four main categories, which are politics and security, culture and society, state and society, and energy and economics.
Under the area of politics and security, we welcome contributions that include, but are not limited to, the following topics:
Gulf domestic policies
Public policy in the Gulf
Gulf security systems
Gulf political reform
International relations with the Gulf
Gulf foreign policy
Gulf and the West
GCC integration
Gulf and the world.
Under the area of culture and society, we welcome contributions that include, but are not limited to, the following topics:
Media in the Gulf
Digital media
Social reforms
Youth in the Gulf
Education
Healthcare
Women and gender
Sports and sport diplomacy
Gulf judiciary system.
Under the area of energy and economics we welcome contributions that include, but are not limited to, the following topics:
Energy security in the Gulf
Energy geopolitics
Water, energy and food nexus
Smart cities in the Gulf
International energy trade
Knowledge economy
International investments and trade.
The general topics covered in the journal are:
The development of the field of Gulf studies, and its position amongst the field of humanities and social sciences,
The development of area studies, and the interdisciplinary approach to contemporary research,
The epistemology of the Gulf,
How the field of Gulf studies contributes to the Gulf region, and how the region contributes to the research,
The possibility of reconstructing the misconception of Gulf studies

Academic article word count (6000–8000 words)
Book review word count (1200–1500 words)
Conference and symposium word count (1500–2000 words)
