In recognition of her exceptional contributions to the field of Middle East studies; With deep appreciation for her sensitive introduction of Middle Eastern lives to many audiences through her written works, films, translations, and teaching; Her outstanding efforts to forge links with Middle Eastern scholars and authors, and her far-reaching presentation of their voices through translation, editing, and support for varied publications; and her tireless service to numerous professional organizations in Middle East studies. It is an honor to recognize Elizabeth W. Fernea, a creative, dedicated, and generous colleague whose work has fostered understanding of the Middle East.
