In recognition of his exceptional service to the field of Middle East studies; With deep appreciation for his exceptional accomplishments at the Library of Congress, where he applied his knowledge and scholarship to the development of world renowned holdings from and about the Middle East; His generous contributions of expertise and good counsel to numerous organizations, and for his efforts in founding the Middle East Librarians Association and the Middle East Microform Project; His distinguished representation of U.S. scholarly interest in and expertise on the Middle East to individuals and institutions in the region. It is an honor to recognize George N. Atiyeh, an unfailingly gracious colleague whose work has enhanced Middle East studies scholarship and understanding of the region.
