In recognition of his exceptional service to the field of Middle East studies; With deep appreciation for his extraordinarily generous activities on behalf of the association and its members including serving as President and twice as a member of the Board of Directors; His outstanding efforts to forge links with Middle Eastern scholars and research institutions; His deep commitment to sharing scholarship on the region with a broad audience through fourteen and one half years of service as editor of the MESA Bulletin during which time he transformed the publication into a vibrant forum for exchange and enlightenment; His tireless service to numerous professional organizations in Middle East studies among them the American Research Center in Egypt, the American Research Institute in Syria, the International Society for Iranian Studies, the Historians of Islamic Art and the Middle East Medievalists. It is an honor to recognize Jere L. Bacharach, a creative, dedicated, energetic and generous colleague whose work has fostered understanding of the Middle East and enriched the lives of his students and his colleagues.
