In recognition of his exceptional contributions to the education and training of others in Middle East studies. With deep appreciation for his ebullience in the classroom, his encouraging spirit, constructive criticism, and generosity in sharing his time with students, his example as a researcher, perennially curious and excited by discovery, while keeping to rigorous methodology, the unfailingly wise and caring advice for and personal interest in the lives and careers of his many former students, the rare combination of deep knowledge of his field with a warmth of heart. It is an honor to recognize Farhat J. Ziadeh, an outstanding mentor, who  represents and fosters the finest of Middle East studies scholarship.
