In recognition of his exceptional contributions to the education and training of others in Middle East studies; With deep appreciation for over forty years nurturing students at every stage of their education and their careers instilling in them a deep love of learning, a commitment to share knowledge with one’s students and with the wider public, and a powerful sense of historical empathy; For his special concern for the well-being of his students and young colleagues and for how and where they might be best served as demonstrated by the powerful academic friendships and intellectual networks he developed to facilitate the transfer and exchange of talent; For the many formal and informal students who at one level or another can trace their academic isnad to him. It is an honor to recognize Israel Gershoni, a supremely generous and inspiring mentor.
