Response from the University of Kentucky to our September 29 letter

Thank you for your communication to President Capilouto. I am responding on his behalf in my capacity as vice president for university relations and as someone engaged in this issue.

When the university receives a complaint regarding an employee’s conduct, it has an obligation to investigate. That is what is happening here. The university is also well within its rights and responsibilities to take interim measures — such as a reassignment in this case; he was not suspended  — while that investigation is being conducted.

Those actions are customary and consistent.

As to the some of the specific assertions in your email, that is exactly what a review and investigation is designed to address. Specifically, outside counsel has been retained because the allegations made regarding Professor Woodcock’s conduct involve Title VI, of the Civil Rights Act.

Thank you again for reaching out about this important matter.

Jay
