Postdoctoral Scholar/Lecturer (Bita Daryabari Fellow in Persian Language and Literature)

The Department of Comparative Literature and the Program in Middle East/South Asia Studies at the University of California Davis invite applications for the newly established Bita Daryabari Endowment Postdoctoral Scholar/Lecturer position in Persian language and literature. The Daryabari fellow will pursue their own research, teach one class related to Persian language and/or literature per year, and organize a conference in an area related to their research in the second year of the fellowship. The Daryabari fellow is expected to be in residence for the full term of the fellowship and participate in the activities of the Comparative Literature Department and the Middle East and South Asia Studies program.

This is a full-time, 100% appointment for a two-year term, with an annual salary of $69,073 and a comprehensive benefits package through UC Davis, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, AD&D, short-term disability, and voluntary long-term disability coverage. We anticipate an appointment start date of the winter quarter 2027; however, a spring quarter 2027 start date may be necessary if circumstances require additional processing time.

The successful candidate will hold a PhD, or have recently completed a PhD, within the humanities or humanistic social sciences field. Eligibility is contingent upon Persian serving as a primary research language and the applicant’s scholarship focusing on the Persianate world. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong and well-developed research program and will be expected to teach an undergraduate seminar in Persian language and literature.
